Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe Monday, October 12, 6:00 pm Following three slaves and their experiences in and out of slavery, Stowe’s novel deals with the effects of slavery on both blacks and whites in the pre-Civil War South. The cultural and political impact attributed to the book is great, reinforced by a story that when Abraham Lincoln met Stowe at the start of the Civil War, Lincoln declared: “So this is the little lady who started this great war.”
