About this event
Art Podell turns 90 in October, and he’s decided to spill the beans. He’s a late fifties and early sixties original Greenwich Village folkie, one-half of the groundbreaking Columbia Records folk duet, Art and Paul. 1961 brought him to Los Angeles where the folk music rage was just beginning. Art and Paul were the first folk singers to entertain at The Troubadour. He signed a songwriting contract with Henry Mancini and did nicely, writing for folk artists like the Smothers Brothers, Glenn Yarbrough, Rod McKuen, and Art was one of the founding members of The New Christy Minstrels, an experience that took him on a wild journey of music, laughter and drama. Art’s show is a peek at the often-hysterical world of the folk era from early Greenwich Village to the Hollywood Bowl, National TV and even The White House. It’s a spoken-musical experience that will leave you laughing and humming the old songs again. When Art was at the White House— “…I looked over and the Secret Service guys were clutching at the walls to keep from falling down laughing…” Photo by Sherry Barnett. https://www.artpodell.com/ Add to cart
