About this event

Tuesday, October 6, 2026, 6–7:15 p.m. Virtual Presenters: Dr. Ankit Singh and Dr. Anna Wallingford Cost: Sliding scale ($0 – $15) Registration Required Register Here A beginner-friendly workshop introducing the fundamentals of greenhouse technology for growers and gardeners. This session will cover how greenhouse systems create controlled growing environments that can extend the season, improve crop quality, and increase production reliability in Maine’s variable climate. Topics include greenhouse structures and materials, heating, cooling and ventilation, basic automation and environmental controls, irrigation and water management, and common challenges and low-cost solutions for small and mid-size farms. The webinar will also explore IPM methods unique to greenhouse production, including how environmental conditions can contribute to common abiotic crop problems that may be mistaken for pests or diseases. Participants will gain practical knowledge to identify these issues better and avoid unnecessary use of time, money, and pesticides. Dr. Ankit Singh Dr. Ankit Singh is an Assistant Extension Professor with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, where his work focuses on sustainable agriculture, ornamental horticulture, and controlled environment agriculture. His research and Extension programs explore greenhouse technologies, hydroponic production, sustainable growing practices, lighting, and emerging technologies that can improve the efficiency and resilience of horticultural systems. Dr. Singh works closely with growers, industry partners, and communities across Maine, translating research into practical, accessible information for agricultural professionals and the public. He is also actively engaged in applied research, professional education, and national and international collaborations focused on advancing sustainable horticultural production. Dr. Anna Wallingford Dr. Anna Wallingford is an entomologist with over 20 years of experience in fruit and vegetable systems, specializing in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA). As a former researcher at USDA’s Agricultural Research Service and New Hampshire’s Agricultural Experiment Station, she provides scientific expertise and a commitment to community-driven research as the director of the newly formed non-profit organization, New Hampshire Community Supported Research (nhcsr.org).
