About this event
DATE: Sunday, November 8 TIME: Noon to 12:50 PM LOCATION: Crete Hall, Hutchins Street Square, Lodi, CA Sandhill Cranes at Modoc National Wildlife Refuge Have you ever been curious about where Greater Sandhill Cranes spend their spring and summer months when they are not seen around Lodi? These remarkable birds are rather busy during that period. In this presentation by USFWS Wildlife Biologist Marsha Barnes , we will explore their courting rituals, nesting habits, and the behaviors they display while raising their colts in northeast California. Additionally, we will delve into the Modoc National Wildlife Refuge’s monitoring strategies and our colt banding initiative, offering a behind-the-scenes look at ongoing conservation efforts. Join us for an engaging and educational journey into the lives of the Greater Sandhill Crane. Marsha Barnes has been a Wildlife Biologist at Modoc National Wildlife Refuge in Alturas, California for almost 4 years. Previously, she was a wildlife biologist at the Litchfield Wetland Management District in central Minnesota. Marsha was first introduced to cranes and floodplains during an internship with USFWS in 2016. Originally from County Pennsylvania, Marsha received a BS in wildlife biology from Unity College in Maine and a MS in environmental management from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.
