NAMI Family-to-Family Returns This Fall – Free Support for Families in Prince George’s County

NAMI Prince George’s County is bringing back one of its most impactful programs this fall: NAMI Family-to-Family, a free, 8-session education course designed for family members, friends, and significant others of adults living with a mental health condition. Over the course of eight virtual sessions, participants will learn about conditions such as anxiety, depressive disorders, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, alongside practical skills in communication, problem-solving, and supporting a loved one’s treatment and recovery journey. The course is taught by trained family members who have walked this path themselves, and it’s recognized as an evidence-based program — meaning research consistently shows it improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to someone with a mental health condition. This fall’s virtual class meets Fridays, October 23 through December 18, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:30 PM EST. The program is offered completely free of charge, and registration includes a brief pre-screening conducted by NAMI PGC. Because classes fill up quickly, families are encouraged to register by October 16. Past participants describe the course as transformative. One family member shared that it helped her “understand better and communicate more effectively” with a loved one, while another said it helped her realize her son “is still inside the body that is often times hidden by the mental illness” — and that she is not alone.
