About this event
During October, stop by to pick up FREE seeds and purchase our 30-gallon vegetable garden container kits, worm castings, compost, potting soil, and shade cloth from 7:00am to 10:00am at our Nuestra Tierra Learning Garden, located past the playground on the west side of the Community Food Bank’s building on S. Country Club Rd. 🌱 FREE SEEDS: as available. Did you know last year we distributed 60,695 seed packets? 🌾 30-GALLON GARDEN CONTAINER KITS: (sliding scale $30-$50), self-watering, and a great way to grow food without a yard. WORM CASTINGS: 1 gallon for $5 SHADE CLOTH (30%): 6 ft x 20 ft (sliding scale $25-$45) In Southern Arizona, shade cloth is typically used from April through October to protect plants from intense sun and heat. The exact timing varies each year, but here are some general guidelines: Spring & Summer: Shade cloth helps reduce water loss and prevents sunscald on plants. Monsoon Season: Secure shade cloth well to withstand strong winds. Fall: As temperatures cool, shade cloth can be removed or adjusted based on plant needs. Plant purchasing should be available again soon (once our new Greenhouse is completed and stocked). For current times and product availability, please contact garden@communityfoodbank.org or call 520‑882‑3307.
