About this event
The Woolly Worm Festival is a world-famous October event celebrating a 45-year mountain tradition centered on woolly bear caterpillar races used to predict winter weather in North Carolina's High Country. The two-day festival draws more than 20,000 visitors annually. Craft vendors line the festival grounds selling handmade mountain arts, pottery, clothing, and seasonal goods. Food vendors and trucks offer everything from funnel cakes to barbecue. Live bluegrass and country music performances occur throughout both days. Children enjoy races, face painting, and balloon artists. The festival coincides with peak fall foliage season, drawing craft enthusiasts, families, and leaf-viewers. Races occur continuously throughout both days, allowing vendors and visitors to browse booths, catch entertainment, and enjoy local food without feeling rushed.
