YOUR INFORMATION, PLAINLY
Privacy Policy
Local Community Events (viewcityevents.com) helps people find local events. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who receives it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It covers this website and its related services. We keep what we collect to what the service needs, and we do not sell your personal information.
When you browse
You can search and read events without an account. When any page is requested, our server records the request in its logs: your IP address, the page, the time, the referring page and your browser’s description of itself. These logs are kept for 14 days to keep the site running and secure.
Your browser remembers your last search choices on your own device, so the home page can restore them. That record stays on your device; clear it with your browser’s site data.
If you use Near me, your browser asks your permission and then sends your location to us once, to find the nearest city we cover. We use it for that answer and do not store it.
Accounts and membership
An account needs your email address and a password. We store the password only as a one-way hash, never in readable form. We keep your settings (such as your time zone), the searches you save as alerts, the events you follow and a record of the emails we send you.
To protect accounts and investigate abuse, we keep security records of sign-ins and account actions: IP address, browser and operating system, language and time zone. They are stored encrypted, kept for as long as needed to investigate abuse, and are not removed when an account is deleted. You can see your recent security history in your account settings.
Paid membership and paid event submissions are handled by Stripe. We keep whether a payment succeeded and Stripe’s reference for it; we never receive or store card numbers.
Events and organizers
Event listings are gathered from the public websites of local organizers, such as venues, libraries and community groups, and from events members submit. Listings contain the public details an organizer publishes, such as the event, venue, time, price and a link to the organizer. If you are an organizer and want a listing corrected or removed, tell us.
Advertisers
If you advertise, we keep your campaigns: the city, categories and months, and your ad’s headline, text, image or video and website address. At checkout and when you save a card, Stripe asks for your billing address. We keep its country, state, postal code and city, but not your name or card, to work out and report sales tax. A saved card stays with Stripe; we keep only its brand and last four digits, such as “Visa ending 4242”.
If you ask for AI help with an ad, we read the public page of the website you give us (its title, description, headings, opening text and pictures) and send that summary to Anthropic, whose Claude model writes the suggested headlines and text. Nothing about you other than that website is sent.
Ads bought on this site are shown without tracking: when we show one, we count only which ad appeared, on which day and in which place on the page. No visitor’s IP address, account, browser or cookie is recorded with it.
The contact form
When you write to us, we keep your name, email address, reason and message. We email you a link to confirm the address is yours; nothing is sent to us until you confirm. To protect the form from misuse, your message reaches us together with technical details of your connection: IP address and its network name, browser and device, language, time zone, screen size and similar details your browser reports, recorded when you send the form and when you confirm it. We keep contact messages for 90 days; replies continue by email.
Emails and notifications
We email you to confirm your address, to reset a password, to confirm a contact message, and, if you ask for them, alerts and daily digests of events. Every alert email lets you unsubscribe. Our emails are sent by our own mail server. If you use our mobile app and allow notifications, we keep your device’s notification token to send the alerts you ask for, and remove it when you sign out.
Downloads
A PDF of events you download carries a trace code linked to your account, so that copies used against the Acceptable Use Policy can be traced. It records nothing else about you.
Cookies
We set cookies only to keep you signed in; they are needed for your account to work. We do not use analytics or tracking tools of our own.
Our city and event pages show advertising from Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show those ads and may use them to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can see and change how Google personalises ads at myadcenter.google.com, and read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser.
Who receives your information
We share information only with the services that help us run the site, and only what each needs:
- Stripe: payments, saved cards, and the sales tax on advertising.
- Google: the AdSense advertising described above.
- Anthropic: the website summary used for an advertiser’s AI help.
- Our hosting provider, whose servers in the United States store the site and its data.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect the safety and rights of people and of the service, or as part of a transfer of the service to a new owner, who would be bound by this policy. We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
Server logs: 14 days. Contact messages: 90 days. Account information: until you delete your account. Security records: as long as needed to investigate abuse. Payment and tax records, including advertisers’ billing places: as long as tax and accounting law requires. Past events are removed from the site 30 days after they end.
Your choices
You can change your settings and alerts, unsubscribe from emails, and delete your account yourself at any time; deleting it removes your profile, alerts and followed events. To ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, write to us with the reason “Privacy or data request”. We will confirm the request comes from you before acting on it, and answer within 45 days. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
Security
The site is served only over encrypted connections. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes and security records are encrypted. Card details are entered on Stripe’s pages and never reach our servers. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you as the law requires if a breach affects your information.
Children
The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the service changes; the effective date and version above identify the current text. Questions and requests go through our contact page.
This is the current product policy draft and should receive legal review before public launch.
