About this event
Held every Saturday morning from May through October on the historic Putnam County Courthouse Square, this weekly farmers market brings together local growers and producers from the Greencastle area and surrounding communities. The seasonal rhythm of the market follows Indiana's growing season, opening in spring when early greens and seedlings become available and continuing through fall harvest when the square fills with apples, squash, and root vegetables. The courthouse square location puts the market at the heart of downtown Greencastle, making it a natural gathering spot for residents and visitors alike. You'll find a mix of vendors focused primarily on fresh produce and farm goods, including seasonal fruits and vegetables from local farms, baked goods from home-based bakeries, and various handmade items that complement the farmers market atmosphere. The mix of vendors can vary week to week, so regular shoppers develop relationships with their favorite producers and learn to time their visits around peak seasons for specific crops. The market draws a mix of home cooks looking for fresh ingredients, families wanting to support local agriculture, and longtime community members for whom the Saturday market is a seasonal tradition. The morning timeframe, running from 8 AM to noon, positions the market as a weekend destination that fits naturally into many shoppers' schedules. The historic setting on the courthouse square gives the market a rooted, authentic feel distinct from larger regional farmers markets, with the kind of intimate scale where vendors know regular customers by name. For farmers and producers looking to reach a dedicated local customer base in a small-town setting, the Greencastle Farmers Market offers weekly opportunities during the growing season to sell directly to households in Putnam County and neighboring areas.
