About this event
Each Thursday afternoon from May through mid-October, the corner of West Main Street and Hickok Street in Christiansburg transforms into a vibrant gathering spot for local food producers and the community members who seek them out. The Christiansburg Farmers Market runs during the sweet spot of late afternoon hours, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, making it convenient for people to stop by after work or school. This weekly farmers market draws vendors selling the seasonal bounty that thrives in Montgomery County's growing climate, from early spring greens and asparagus through summer berries and tomatoes, into fall squashes and root vegetables. What you'll typically find at the market reflects the region's agricultural diversity. Produce vendors bring whatever is at peak ripeness that week, meaning your offerings change with the seasons and weather. Beyond fresh vegetables and fruits, you'll encounter bakers offering artisanal breads and pastries, beekeepers with local honey in various varieties, farmers selling fresh eggs from their flocks, and herbalists with culinary and medicinal plants. The mix of vendors means shoppers come expecting to find multiple sources for similar items, so there's room for specialized growers, value-added producers, and niche offerings alongside the staples. The market accepts both credit cards and SNAP/EBT benefits, which broadens your customer base and makes shopping accessible to a wider range of community members. Operating through mid-October means you're present during the strongest farmers market season, capturing both the height of summer produce demand and the early fall migration when people start thinking about preserving and storing for winter. The Thursday evening timing attracts working families, after-work shoppers, and people building a weekly routine around the market.
